Our Projects
We’re leading a number of collaborative projects that explore the genetic causes of ME. Our work focuses on securing strategic research funding, fostering partnerships across disciplines, and addressing the critical shortage of researchers in the field of ME. Learn more about our current projects below.

LOCOME
The LOCOME (LOng COvid and Myalgic Encephalomyelitis Diagnostics Stratification) project is a two-year initiative led by PrecisionLife, in collaboration with Action for ME and the MRC Human Genetics Unit at the University of Edinburgh.

Sequence ME & Long Covid
Sequence ME & Long Covid brings together experts from Oxford Nanopore Technologies, the University of Edinburgh, the European Molecular Biology Laboratory’s European Bioinformatics Institute, and Action for ME. They are seeking funding for a study that will analyse the entire genetic code of 9,000 people with ME and 9,000 with Long Covid in a bid to uncover the genetic causes of the illnesses and find out how they are related.

Clare Francis Research Fellowship
Action for ME is committed to supporting and funding early career researchers, and is currently funding Dr Audrey Ryback’s two-year fellowship through the Clare Francis Research Fund. Dr Ryback is affiliated with the ME Genetics Centre of Excellence at the University of Edinburgh, and supervised by Professor Chris Ponting. Her research is investigating whether blood serum factors are causing changes to mitochondria in people with ME/CFS.

PRIME
Action for ME, the University of Edinburgh and the ME Genetics Centre of Excellence have brought in over £800,000 from the Medical Research Council for a project to provide infrastructure in the UK and beyond, to accelerate progress in ME research and build the field.
